Cutter & Squidge Genies Cave Afternoon Tea

Whilst I was away travelling a picture of an Aladdin themed afternoon tea popped up on my Instagram timeline, since I have a massive sweet tooth and love anything Disney related I really wanted to go to Cutter & Squidge. My best friend and I planned to go once I was back, I was counting down the days on my calendar and it finally came around to it this week. The Genies Cave Afternoon Tea surpassed my expectations and it is the best one I have been to.

Ghost Brownies

One of the things I missed whilst being away travelling was baking, I find it therapeutic and love creating something out of nothing. Whilst away I starting to plan what I wanted to make once back in the UK and seeing as I love anything themed, I thought Halloween was the perfect occasion to get started with. I spotted these ghost brownies when browsing the internet for baking inspiration and loved them as soon as I saw them. I'm always putting different toppings on my brownies (toffee, Cadbury cream eggs, chocolate orange, Kinder Buenos...) and thought these were too cute.

When in Australia...

When I was planning my trip volunteering in Mauritius and Bali, I decided that since I was so close to Australia it would be a shame not to stop by and explore the East Coast. I was really excited at the prospect of organising what I wanted to do in each area and all of the different possibilities of what to see.

There is a massive contrast between the different parts of the country and there was so many places that I wanted to see that I had to choose the ones I wanted to see the most this time around. In the end I decided to visit Fitzroy Island, Cape Tribulation, Whitsundays, Fraser Island, Brisbane and Sydney. I'm happy with the decisions I made and it just gives me an excuse to come back! I apologise in advance as this is going to be one very long blog post but I didn't want to break it up into separate posts. So enjoy and try not to fall asleep!

When in Bali...

When I made the decision to go travelling, I decided that I wanted to do two different volunteering programmes the first being Marine Conservation in Blue Bay, Mauritius and the second being Teaching in Ubud, Bali. I had always heard such positive things about Bali and that it was such a beautiful place, which is why when I found a volunteering opportunity that I liked there I thought it would be perfect.

After having an amazing time in Mauritius I didn't really want to leave the place or people, which made for a difficult couple of days where I struggled to adapt to staying in Bali and felt really sad. I did get in the swing of things a couple of days in and really started to take in the beauty of my surroundings, and once my volunteer programme started I was happy to be in a routine once again. I've also made more great friends who have had me in fits of laughter and was sad to be leaving them for the last part of my journey travelling through Australia.

When in Mauritius...

A little over three months ago now, I decided to make a change and go travelling. I was always the girl who said she would never go travelling alone, that I wouldn't be able to do it, it never appealed to me and just didn't think I would be tough enough to do it. However after having a hard couple of months, which left my confidence broken, disheartened in my direction, half a stone lighter and a bit of emotional wreck I wanted a complete change. Something that I had once loved had become a negative space and therefore I decided it was time to move on. I haven't looked back since and am very happy with the decision I made because it led me here.

When I was 16, I spent a summer volunteering for three different charities and my time that year has always stuck with me. So when I started looking for a change volunteering came to my mind once again and a change of country sounded even better. I started researching a variety of volunteering abroad opportunities and ultimately decided on two: marine conservation in Mauritius and teaching in Bali. I also decided that I would go to Australia after Bali as I would be so close and it would be a missed opportunity if I didn't go. I gave myself a little over two months to get everything ready and boy did it come around quick, as we speak I am getting ready to go on the next leg of my adventure to Bali and will be leaving Mauritius today. I have absolutely loved my time here and wanted to dedicate a post to my four weeks in Mauritius, including everything I have done and learnt.

Sheet Mask Tried & Tested

Sheet masks have imploded in the last year or so, and it is crazy how many brands have come out with one. There are sheet masks for everything now: face, lips, neck & d├ęcolletage, hands and feet, you name it and it exists. One brand has even brought out a tanning sheet!! The craze which originated from Korea provides an easy way to hydrate the deeper layers of your skin and to truly allow the moisture to sink in.

After having a beauty clear out in April, I found that I had quite a few sheet masks in my cupboard that had slipped through the cracks, which goes to show I definitely own way to many beauty products *hides face in hands*. Since my amazing discovery, I have been using up my sheet masks and perking up my skin based on its need (spottiness, dehydration, dullness, etc...).  So here are four sheet masks that I recently tried out and if they are worth giving a go:

The Last Piece Of My Heart by Paige Toon

I have always loved reading and that feeling of escaping into a different life so much different to my own, and through every story seeing things in a different perspective. I love discovering new authors, stories and styles of writing, however, like with anything I do have a couple of favourite authors whose every book I read without question... Paige Toon's being one of those.

Ever since first reading Lucy in the Sky I have been captivated by Paige Toon's books and get excited every time she announces a new release. Her stories are always funny, heartwarming, addictive and also at times a little bit heartbreaking (you'll need a box of tissues for The One We Fell in Love With). I was so excited when I heard about The Last Piece of My Heart and one of the things I also love about her books is that even thought the majority of them are standalone stories, you still get to hear about previous characters in different books and we first got a small glimpse into the protagonist Bridget's life in previous books: The Longest Holiday (Laura's story) and Thirteen Weddings (Bronte's story).

When in Berlin...

Brandenburg Gate
After having a lovely city break in Rome last year, I couldn't wait to go and explore another European city. I honestly have a travel wish list a mile long and have been dying to go away since my last holiday in September to Marbella. My love for travelling began after my trip to Rome and also contributed towards my decision to go travelling for three months from June to September (Mauritius, Bali and Australia here I come!!). One of my friends had an event in Berlin, so suggested I tag along before it all started and we could explore the city.

Lemon Drizzle Cake

I've recently become obsessed with baking and am trying to make a variety of different things I haven't done before. One of the baked goods at the top of my list to do was a Lemon Drizzle Cake as they are one of my favourites and anything with icing on the top is a winner in my book. I was surprised by how easy it is to bake and the little ingredients you need to do so! I have baked it a couple of times now and still love it just as much as the first time I made it.

Crazy Chocolate Cake

One of my resolutions for 2017 was to bake more as I have always stuck with what I know and that means making lots of brownies. My efforts so far have consisted of Lemon Drizzle Cake, Kinder Bueno Cake, biscuits and a Victoria Sponge Cake that didn't end too well. However, one of my favourites by far is the above which I have kind of decided to call Crazy Chocolate Cake due to the excessive amount of chocolate on and in it (creativity at its best here).

La Roche-Posay Effaclar range

In 2016, I became a bit of skincare fanatic and one of my main missions of the year was getting my skin back into a good condition. Along my way a friend recommended I try the La Roche-Posay Effaclar range, which is targeted towards blemish and acne prone skin. I have to say I have been very impressed with La Roche Posay and the products in the Effaclar range I have tried, they helped even my skin tone and left my skin looking healthier.

My experience giving blood

Image: NHS Blood and Transplant

Giving blood can be a daunting experience and after wanting to do it for a very long time, I finally took the plunge and donated for the first time in November last year. Having had my blood taken when I was very young for a surgery to remove my tonsils, I was a little bit traumatised by the experience due to my young age and with time lapsing the fear grew of having needles near my blood again.

Everyday Makeup Essentials

Everyone has essential beauty products they can't go a day without, even as a beauty addict there are some products I can't imagine not having in my beauty bag, and repurchase them time and time again.

My Not So Perfect Life by Sophie Kinsella

I'm a big lover of reading and have been ever since I was a child, I could just sit down to read for hours and not even notice time passing me by. Since starting my first full-time job back in March, I haven't done much reading except when I have been on holiday and have found that I haven't been able to get that into reading as easily as I used to. When I saw that Sophie Kinsella was releasing a new book in February, I couldn't wait to get my hands on it! I've loved Sophie's books since the very start and own every each and one of them, she creates a world you get captured in and never want to leave. Her writing is captivating and hilarious, you feel connected to her down-to-earth characters and root for them. My Not So Perfect Life is Sophie's best work yet, her character Katie was very relatable and I could what emphasise with what she was going through.

Spectrum Collections The Glam Clam

Spectrum Collections have been making waves with their gorgeous brushes, which are not only pretty but cruelty free and vegan. You'll be hard pressed to find a blogger that hasn't blogged about these stunning brushes or included them in a flatlay or two. It's not difficult to see why, they are very Instagrammable and just look magical! I've been lusting over buying one of their sets for a while now and took the plunge a couple of months ago, I bought the mermaid inspired Glam Clam and was so excited when I received it in the post.

MAC x Mariah Carey Collection

It's no secret I love glitter, I mean it is in the title of my blog after all and when I first saw the MAC x Mariah Carey Collection announced on Instagram I knew it was love at first sight. I definitely feel like this collection was made for me, it combines my two great loves: glitter + makeup. It truly is the most beautiful makeup collection I have ever seen and it's not wrong to buy makeup for the packaging alone right?!

MAC limited edition collections sell out quicker than you can say Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious, they go like hot cakes and it often involves a lot of impulse buying trying to get your hands on something. I actually bought my three products on three different occasions and websites, I knew I wanted a lipstick from the get-go I mean have you seen that butterfly on it and all that glitter?! Finding the lip liner was a little bit of a mission in itself though as it had sold out on most websites but I got there in the end and the Eyeshadow Quad was an impulse purchase as I couldn't stop thinking about how pretty the shades looked. MAC have definitely outdone themselves with this collection and the packaging is simply stunning!
